Registration Full
ALERT: OAME2017 is full!
Due to the volume and rate of registrations this year, we are unable to re-open full registration now. Thank you for your interest! We are working through the current backlog of requests and changes may occur. Please monitor MCIS, OAME Webmail, Twitter, and/or Facebook.
We recognize that 2017 is a year that is something completely different, with the increased focus on mathematics instruction. Because we want people to have as much success as possible when selecting sessions, as well as obtaining accommodation and meals on a weekend with another large event in Kingston, we have decided the only route is one that necessitates our limiting registrations and requests to those in hand.
The date for the annual conference was set in 2014, based on OAME policy that the conference occurs on the second weekend of May and having no expectation there would be any change in the usual rate at which registrations would occur, or that there would be a competing event in the same city. With that kind of lead time, it was impossible to predict many of the things that have come to pass; notably, the surprising number and pace at which registrations were received. We also learned only a few weeks ago of another major event in the city of Kingston, which so far also has around 1000 people attending: these people are competing for rooms and restaurant space at the same time as you. Even though our dates were set and known three years ago, various circumstances out of our control led to this double booking in Kingston.
This was not an easy decision: we worked through a process of many emails, personal conversations, telephone calls, and finally a carefully-considered analysis of all of the available options. We employed the best process we could muster, and as it unfolded, this was the only reasonable choice we could make given the many factors affecting the conference.
Our eConference will open for registration in mid-March. Details will be posted to oame2017.ca shortly. This will be open to OAME members only, with no distance minimum. All sessions will be focusing on aspects pertaining to the education of FNMI students.
